Animating Superelements

This is an approach provided to a client for animating superelements in MSC Patran.

Results may be filtered based on a frequency threshold.

The example below the user would change the variable in the result case menu to frequency then specify the desired frequency bounds.

Everything described after that relates to what SSL was doing and you can ignore. Also, you will have a dytran results file not a nastran results file. If you want you can unzip the enclosed patran database file and run through the steps below to see how the whole process worked for superelements and filtering. It was created on my NT.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have question.

File Menu -> Start with a new Patran database.

Analysis Menu -> Read in the result(s) files and model data from the .op2 file(s)

Results Menu -> Create -> Deformation

Under the four icons where it says Select Result Case(s), select the second icon (the first should be highlighted).  This enables subcase selection.

Select Result Case(s) Menu -> Variable: Mode number
Values: Below Value: 1 (for mode 1)
Click on Filter
Click Apply

Results Menu – Click Apply for deformed shape plot.

To animate the superelements do the following:

Results Menu -> Create -> Results -> Maximum

Select the result Eigenvectors, Translational if not selected
Click Apply

The following commands create the derived results:

Results Menu -> Create -> Deformation
Under the four icons where it says Select Result Case(s),
select highlighted icon (should be the first)
Scroll down to find the derived results
Highlight the derived results
Turn on animation just above the apply button
Hit apply

This should animate the superelement assembly(ies) for the first mode.  To view other modes repeat the procedure above and change only the values: and value: data for the desired modes.
